The story
Michelle Minoux travels to Madrid for a royal wedding, hoping her long-time escort Antoine Lareau will finally propose. Her flirtation with a handsome Gypsy, who turns out to be Luis Augustin Aragon, heir to a shipping fortune, turns deadly when Antoine challenges Luis to a duel. The men have bargained that Michelle will wed the winner, and she soon becomes Señora Aragon.
Luis is impossible to resist, but a fire sinks his ship and strands the two of them on a deserted island where they must depend on their wits to survive. With a mortal enemy stalking them, Luis proves far more dangerous than the Gypsy lover who won Michelle's heart.
