The story
Rafael Ramirez, San Francisco's most successful attorney, has no time for entanglements with women until he sees Alicia Caldwell aboard the Reina del Mar. Never one to pass up a brief fling, he pulls her into his embrace and realizes at once that a lifetime would not be enough.
For the heiress Alicia there have only ever been two kinds of men, fortune hunters and wealthy boors. Rafael fits neither mold. She resolves that he will never win her money or her love, and finds that resolution harder to keep than she expected.

Starlit Ecstasy is a 1987 historical romance and the sequel to Love's Elusive Flame, Phoebe Conn's first novel. Both are set in nineteenth-century San Francisco, and the author's site flagged the connection so readers would take them in order.
